Don Smith (Of Counsel)

Don Smith is a founding member of the firm.  He attended Georgia State University as an undergraduate after his honorable discharge from the United States Air Force in 1955.  He then attended the University of Georgia School of Law under the G. I. Bill of Rights and received the L.L.B. degree magna cum laude in December, 1957.  While at UGA, Don was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi.

Don has practiced law for more than 50 years.  He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and served on the Board of Governors for the State Bar.  He has served as president of the Cobb Bar Association and was honored as a recipient of the Cleveland Professionalism Award.

Hap Smith is a longtime Marietta attorney who began practicing law in 1976 in Marietta. For more than 40 years Hap’s law firm, Smith, Tumlin, McCurley & Patrick, P.C., has been a leading transactional law firm in the Marietta and Cobb County real estate industry and one of the top agents in the Georgia title insurance industry.  The firm has closed more than $3 billion in commercial and residential transactions.

Hap Smith specializes in corporate, banking and real estate matters as a transactional attorney. He is a lifelong resident of Marietta, a 1968 honor graduate of Marietta High School who graduated from the University of Georgia for his undergraduate (B.B.A./Finance, 1972) and legal studies (J. D., 1976). While at the university, Hap was a member of Phi Delta Phi, a scholastic fraternity and graduated with honors in 1972. He joined Don Smith and Gary Eubanks in the practice of law after his graduation from the University of Georgia Law School in 1976.

Steve Tumlin

Steve Tumlin

Steve “Thunder” Tumlin has been practicing with the firm since 1996.  He attended the University of Georgia where he obtained a BBA, graduated with a MBA from the University of Denver, and obtained his JD from Georgia State University.

Thunder has an extensive background as a businessman in addition to his practice of law.  He was President and Owner of Marietta Lumber Company after working for a national CPA firm in Atlanta.  He has served on several bank boards and is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant.

Thunder’s practice areas include probate, tax matters, tax preparation and consultant, Estate Planning, and transactional.  His area of concentration also includes business formation and corporate planning.

Wayne McCurley

D. Wayne McCurley began practicing law in Marietta, Georgia in 1986. He worked in two other firms before joining Smith Tumlin McCurley & Patrick in 1993. He has examined thousands of residential and commercial real estate titles all over north Georgia particularly in Cobb, Cherokee, Bartow, Paulding, Douglas, and Gwinnett Counties. He has written title insurance policies for transactions ranging from simple residential purchases to complex multistate commercial financing.

Wayne graduated from Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law in 1986 after completing his B.A. summa cum laude at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga. He was born in Marietta and spent his childhood in the Oak Grove community of Cherokee County.

Ryan Patrick

Ryan Patrick

Ryan K. Patrick joined Smith, Tumlin, McCurley & Patrick, P.C. in 2006 as an associate practicing primarily in the areas of real estate and business transactions and estate planning and probate matters. Ryan graduated from the University of Georgia in 2002 with a B.A. in Political Science and received his law degree from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University in 2005.

Ryan is currently admitted to practice in all Georgia trial courts, the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Georgia Supreme Court and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Ryan is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the Cobb County Bar Association.

Prior to joining Smith, Tumlin, McCurley & Patrick, P.C., Ryan was an associate in a Gwinnett County law firm, practicing primarily in the areas of business and real estate litigation.

Ryan was a member of the Leadership Cobb Class of 2012.  Ryan is currently the instructor for the real estate law class of the Paralegal Certificate Program at the North Metro campus of Chattahoochee Technical College.  Ryan volunteers with several community organizations including serving on the WellStar Major Gifts Committee, serving on the Board of Directors of the non-profit Cobb Health Futures Foundation and teaching closing and settlement seminars as part of first-time home buyer programs of the Marietta Housing Authority.

Ryan lives in Marietta with his wife Jamie, his three children, Ali, Rhodes and Beck, and their dog Baxter and is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marietta. Ryan enjoys the Georgia Bulldogs, running, golf, music and spending time with his family and friends.
